Whether it is in a community sound bath experience or a one to one treatment, my aim is to create a welcoming safe space for you to relax and enjoy. Below is a list of frequently asked questions. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me if you have a question that is not presented here, or for any additional information.

What is a sound bath?

A sound bath is a therapeutic meditation experience where participants lie down/sit and are "bathed" in a variety of soothing sounds from instruments like singing bowls, gongs, and chimes. The goal is to induce a state of deep relaxation by immersing the body and mind in the vibrations and harmonious frequencies of the instruments.

What happens during a community sound bath event?

Upon arrival you will be greeted and advised to write down an intention for your sound bath experience, such as 'deep relaxation' and place it in an envelope for you to keep.  This is intended as a private message for yourself and for you to take home afterwards. You will then be shown a suitable area for you to sit/lay to experience the sound bath from. After a brief introduction, you will be guided with a short visualisation relaxation. Once this is finished you will hear a chime ring three times and the sound bath will begin. You will then experience and be fully immersed in the beautiful sound waves of gongs, Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls, chimes and shakers. The venue room lighting will be dimmed/ turned off during the sound bath for ambience. LED Candles and laser coloured lighting will be projected upwards to illuminate the room with a visual display. No previous experience is necessary. Just sit, or lay, and relax as both Emma and Pauline take you on a journey with sound, frequency and vibration.

What should I bring with me to a community sound bath?

Hall chairs are provided, but please bring with you a cushion for extra support and comfort. It is advisable to bring a blanket to drape over you. This not only keeps you warm throughout the duration of the sound bath but it helps facilitate a sense of comfort and wellbeing too. If you would prefer to lay down during the sound bath, please bring a mat with you. The hall floors can be hard and there could be drafts, especially during the winter months, so it is advisable to bring extra blanket layers for cushioning and warmth. There will be some complementary eye masks for you to borrow if you are light sensitive or would like to facilitate a deeper relaxation. If you prefer to keep your eyes open during the sound bath that is absolutely fine, as there will be an ambient lighting display. It is also advisable to bring a drink with you and keep it next to you during the sound bath. Basically, bring anything with you that will help you to relax and feel a sense of comfort and wellbeing during your sound bath experience.

Are there any medical restrictions in attending a sound bath?

My sound healing treatments and offerings are meant to complement, not replace, conventional medical or mental health care. It is widely recommended by healthcare professionals and practitioners that sound healing should not replace conventional medicine. Instead, it should be considered a complementary therapy to use as part of your own self care practices. Sound healing is generally considered a low-risk, non-invasive approach that may help manage symptoms like stress and anxiety. Research suggests it can promote relaxation, improve mood, and aid meditation, offering valuable support for your overall wellbeing. *Please note, a sound bath is not suitable for some medical conditions. Individuals with epilepsy, severe sleep apnoea, heart conditions, medical electrical devices, pacemakers, metal implants, acute mental health conditions, severe sound sensitivity, or who are pregnant, should not attend a sound bath. Those who have had recent surgeries should also proceed with caution. If you are unsure if a medical condition you have may not be suitable for you to attended a sound bath with Emma, please consult your GP/ Medical professional prior to booking & attending.

What if I have never been to a sound bath before?

Beginners are welcome!  Simply come with an open mind and a willingness to relax. At any point during a sound bath you are free to leave the room. If you are receiving a one to one treatment with Emma and you feel the sound is becoming too over whelming for you, please notify Emma at the time.  The aim is for you to experience a relaxing and most importantly enjoyable sound healing experience.  I am trained to hold sound baths in a safe and supportive way. It is advisable for you to experience a community sound bath first prior to booking a one to one treatment with Emma. This way you will have already familiarised yourself with the unusual sounds the instruments make. During a one to one treatment, the noise levels and vibrations will be intensified and Emma will be working at a closer proximity to your body in a smaller room.

Can I eat/drink before a sound bath?

It is best to eat something light about an hour before the sound bath. It is advisable to keep hydrated and bring a drink with you. Water is best. It is not advisable to have alcohol in your system prior to and during your attendance of a sound bath.

What should I wear to a sound bath?

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily relax in. During the colder months it is advisable to wear additional layers as you can soon feel the cold during a sound bath.

I can not lay down on the floor / treatment bed. Can I still attend a sound bath?

Hall chairs are provided by the venue, although these may be uncomfortable to sit on for a length of time. Therefore it is advisable for you to bring cushions and blankets, to make your experience more comfortable. You are always welcome to bring along a reclining chair of your own if you prefer. During a one to one treatment with Emma her treatment bed can configure to a seated position. If you would prefer this please notify Emma by email at time of booking the appointment.

Can children attend ?

My community sound bath sessions are designed for adults and older teens, as they involve quiet stillness for an hour duration. However,  I am happy for children 12 and over to attended if they are capable of sitting/ laying quietly throughout the entire duration of the sound bath. It is important that an undisturbed relaxed environment is maintained. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. For Emma's one to one treatment sound baths, you must be aged 18 or over to attend.

If I am nervous, how will you support me?

I always take the time at the start of my sessions to explain all that you need to know and what to expect.   If anyone needs to leave at anytime during the sound bath, they are free to do so.   During a Community sound bath, we will play instruments in a close proximity to you. If you would prefer for this not to happen, or to be positioned away from a loud vibrating instrument such as a gong, please let us know before the start of the sound bath. During a one to one treatment I would usually lay a blanket over you and place my hands on your feet above the blanket. This is to help facilitate a grounding meditative experience. I also use a tuning fork gently placed on your wrists, this is to help calm your nervous system before the start of the sound bath. If you would prefer for this not to happen, please let me know at the start of the session. During the treatment, I would usually lay oracle cards and small crystals on your covered body. This will always be discussed at the start of the session. I may even place a small singing bowl on you/ over you too. Again if you would prefer for this not to happen or if there are any sore areas I need to be made aware of, please let me know at the beginning of the session.  As a sound healing practitioner, I am trained to hold sound baths in a safe and supportive way. My certificate is displayed in my Zen Room. I am registered with the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine ( IPHM) and I am fully insured. You can ask to see my IPHM details at any time.

Is there wheelchair access and facilities?

Wheelchair accessibility & facilities will depend on the individual community sound bath venue. This information will be displayed on the event booking page.  My one to one treatments in my Zen Room are wheelchair accessible. My treatment room is on the ground floor, but there is a door threshold to step over to access the treatment room.  I have a toilet near to the treatment room. Unfortunately, this is not wheelchair accessible. This is a very small room and there is a step down to access this area. If you have any mobility concerns please contact me by email prior to booking an appointment. I can provide you with measurements and photos of doorways, therapy bed height etc prior to your visit.

Is parking available?

Parking is usually available at most venues for the community sound baths. If there is disabled parking, this will be mentioned in on the event information page prior to booking your ticket. There is plenty of room for parking on my driveway or along the roadside for my one to one treatments from my Zen Room in Shipdham.
